Making A Difference

Making A Difference

A man was walking down a deserted beach at sunset. As he walked along, he saw a boy in the distance, he noticed that the boy kept leaning down, picking something up and throwing it out into the water. Time and again he kept hurling things out into the ocean. As he approached closer, he noticed that the boy was picking up starfish that had washed up on the beach, and, one at a time, he was throwing them back into the water. The man was puzzled.

He approached the boy and said “Hi, I was wondering what you are doing.”

“Hi, I’m throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see its low tide right now and all of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don’t throw them back into the sea, they’ll die up here from lack of oxygen.”

“I understand,” man replied, “but there must be thousands of starfish on this beach. You can’t possibly get to all of them. There are simply too many. And don’t you realize this is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast. Can’t you see that you can’t possibly make a difference?”

The boy, bent down and picked up yet another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea, he replied, “Made a difference to that one!”

Moral: Keep going, it may not matter to the world, but it will surely matter to one, to you !!!

anusha-questions - 120208 - drtps answered

Namasthe Chachu,

Today I was reading about Swami Vivekananda and noted down all the doubts that I encoutered.

*
He was regarded as a srutidhara. -- What does srutidhara mean?
SRUTHI IS SPEAKING – DHARA IS NON-STOP,, MEANS HE WAS A GOOD PUBLIC SPEAKER.

*
His initial beliefs were shaped by Brahmo concepts, which include belief in a formless God and deprecation of the worship of idols. -- So, does Brahmo Samaj believes that God is formless? Does formless mean God doesn't take any form? Brahmo Samaj believes only in Single God Brahma?
BRAHMA – ATMA..

*
His first introduction to Ramakrishna occurred in a literature class in General Assembly's Institution, when he heard Principal Reverend W. Hastie lecturing on William Wordsworth's poem The Excursion and the poet's nature-mysticism. In the course of explaining the word trance in the poem, Hastie told his students that if they wanted to know the real meaning of it, they should go to Ramakrishna of Dakshineswar. This prompted some of his students, including Narendranath to visit Ramakrishna. -- What is the real meaning of trance?
LIBERATION . SAMADHI IS TRANCE

*
I crept near to him and asked him the question which I had been asking others all my life: "Do you believe in God, Sir?" "Yes", he replied. "Can you prove it, Sir?" "Yes". "How?" "Because I see Him just as I see you here, only in a much intenser sense." That impressed me at once. […] I began to go to that man, day after day, and I actually saw that religion could be given. -- What does he mean by religion could be given?
MAY BE THAT WHAT RELIGION CAN POSSIBLY GIVE., REPEATED DAY BY DAY VISIT.. BUT THAT MAKES THE INTENSE IN-VIEW.

*
At Cossipore, Vivekananda reportedly experienced Nirvikalpa Samadhi. -- What is Nirvikalpa Samadhi?
TRANCE.. LIBERATION

*
What is the difference between Monks and Parivrajaka's?
MONKS ARE SWAMY / RISHI / --- PARIVRAJAKA IS WONDERING SWAMY.. ON MOVE .. AROUND AND LIVES ON BEGGING. PALM FROM OTHERS.

*
Vivekananda always carried two books with him —Bhagavad Gita and The Imitation of Christ. -- We know Vivekananda as a core Hindu believer, then why does he always carry Imitation of Christ book? and he also used to discuss about the philosophies and teachings of Jesus Christ?
HE WANTED TO DRAW LESSONS TO THE CHIRISTIAN PEOPLE AND HE USED THAT KNOWLEDGE FOR THAT.. RAMAKRISHNA MAT SAYS THEY ARE SECULAR.. NOT HINDU

*
Vivekananda gave lectures on Jnana Yoga in the West. -- What is Jnana Yoga?
YOGA / LIBERATION WITH KNOWLEDGE.. CHAPTERS IN GITA WHEN I SPOKE TOLD ABOUT KARMA (CH1-6) / BHAKTHI (CH 7-12) / JNANA – (CHA 13-18)

*
He also gave lectures on "The Cosmos—The Macrocosm and The Microcosm". -- What does "The Cosmos—The Macrocosm and The Microcosm" mean?
MACRO IS UNIVERSIE AND MICRO IS ATOM – EDHA PINDE THATHA BRAHMANDE

*
He studied Mahabhyasa on sutras of Panini. -- What is it?
PANINI ON VYAKARANA (GRAMMER) – MAHA-BHASHYA IS INTERPRETATION

*
At Porbander he stayed three quarters of a year, in spite of his vow as a wandering monk, to perfect his philosophical and Sanskrit studies with learned pandits; he worked with a court pandit who translated the Vedas. -- What is the vow as a wandering monk?
VOW IS THAT HE WILL BE ALWAYS ON MOVE !! BUT HE STAYED FOR FEW LONG DAYS THERE..

*
At Ernakulam, he met Chattampi Swamikal, contemporary of Narayana Guru in early December 1892. -- Who is Narayana Guru? What is meant by contemporary?
CONTEMPORARY IS PEOPLE WHO LIVED TOGETHER.. U R MY CONTEMPORARY.. WHE MET EACHOTHER.. NARAYANA GURU WAS A SAINT WHO UNDERSTOOD GOD AND FOUTH AGAISNT CAST SYSTEM AND WAS A GOOD FORCE IN KERALA.. CHATTAMBI SWAMY ALOS DID LOT OF STUDY ON CHISTIANISM.. AND WROTE A BOOK ON SURGERY ON CHRISTIANITY.. 9TH APRIL OIN KERAL ALAST YEAR I CONDUCTED A CONFERENCE .. BEFORE HP ON HIM.. IN IRINJALAKUDA..

*
During his first visit to America, he traveled to England twice—in 1895 and 1896. His lectures were successful there. Here he met Miss Margaret Noble, an Irish lady, who later became Sister Nivedita. Sister Nivedita devoted the rest of her life to the education of Indian women and the cause of India's independence.
Chachu once you have asked me about Sister Nivedita.

*
The ideals of the Ramakrishna Mission are based on Karma Yoga. -- What is Karma Yoga? means doing karma?
KARMA I had explained in 11113 lecture as WHAT WE DO EXTRA.. NOT EVRY WORK

*
On the day of his death, he taught Shukla-Yajur-Veda to some pupils in the morning at Belur Math. -- What is Shukla-Yajur-Veda?
YAJUR VEDA IS THE PRACTICAL RITUAL PART… IT HAS THE RITUALS IN BLACK (KRISHNA) AND WHITE (SUKLA) ---- FOLLOWED / LEARNED / TAUGHT / MAY BE WRITTEN BY THE TWO TYPES OF BRAHMINS..
